A new sculpture

This new sculpture was inspired by a friends photo of their new foal. She was still struggling with the concept of where to put those long legs. I have made the foal a few weeks older. This is the second in a series I'll be creating of sculptures depicting foals in their discovery and solving life's puzzles. They will be at the curious age of couple months old when really start finding things to do.

I'll start this by showing how the sculpture is built. The first photo shows the clay being applied to the armature.

Jake in Resin

Jake has taken on another form, Resin. With the help of my creative partner, Miles Anderson, we have made a resin form of Jake. I’ve started painting them today. This is an experiment too. They started out just being painted from a base color but I’m finding the paint adheres better with a primer coat of gesso. It is still an art piece and not a toy. They are a bit fragile.
Jake in resin comes in bay, sorrel, grey, buckskin, palomino there are so many horse colors. Of course there’s a variety of white socks, blazes, and stars. I would be glad to paint one to match your favorite horse! Bring your photos in to the studio or send me enough photo reference to work from.
Like the bronze, a portion of the proceeds will go to Montana Horse Sanctuary.
All the Jakes will accompany me to the Western Heritage Art Show at the Holiday Inn, March 16-20 for Western Art Week. Hope to see you there!

Solo Show at Lewistown Art Center

The inventory is piling up in my studio as I frame new paintings. Its exciting to be doing a solo show, but certainly out of my comfort zone. I am very comfortable in my day to day life working in my studio. I don't really like being the 'spotlight', its just part of my business.
Opening Reception: February 4th, 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Lewistown Art Center
Workshop: Horses in Landscape Saturday February 5th, 9:00 AM - 3:00PM at the LAC. Bring your favorite medium, I'll be concentration on drawing and painting horses in the morning then working them into a landscape in the afternoon. I'll be focusing on the subject not the medium.

I'm excited about the new bronze I have coming along. Its a young colt, Jake is his name. Jake is part of another project to be revealed at a later date. I title this sculpture of Jake, "Precarious Position". Here's Jake in the wax model. His wires are still sticking out of his feet. He'll be prettier in bronze.

First time for everything...

This is it, my first entry of a blog. The word blog is a strange word. The first thing it brings to my mind is riding through the bogs one encounters on the trails in the mountains. That apprehensive feeling you get as your horse carefully picks his way across the knee deep mud pond and the sucking sound as he pulls out each hoof...

So, that aside, let me get back to business. I'm an artist, not a writer, and start with a series of portraits I've painted for the Montana Horse Sanctuary. These are four oil paintings all 12 x 16. Which will be used for note cards and promotional posters for the MHS. These cards will be available thru the Sanctuary and at Hausmann Studio. They are not printed yet. I will make an announcement when they are. The originals are for sale here at the studio in Fairfield. A percentage from the sales of the MHS originals will go to the Montana Horse Sanctuary.

Now I should be able to add photos to this... guess not... please to to my New Works page to see these paintings.
