Diane Hausmann, a Montana artist...
DH easel
Living along the eastern front of the Rocky Mountains has been an endless source of inspiration for my paintings. The land, the animals, the history all are part of my paintings.
I try to show my appreciation of the land and its inhabitants in my artwork. I take my subjects from the experiences I have enjoyed. My goal is to share my experience with the viewer and make them feel they are a part of the painting.

The landscape, from the plains to the mountains, is a subject in constant change. Its many colors, textures and changes in light keep my eyes constantly composing paintings even when I don’t have a brush in my hand. When building a painting I work on location to build the painting till its almost done. I leave it for a couple days then finish it back in the studio. Most of the time I have two or three paintings started at any given time. I’m able to see the composition with a fresh eye.

Horses are the heart of my work. Studying all aspects of horses since childhood has developed my artistic and riding skills. And just like art, horses are an illusive challenge, there is always something new to learn. In my art I work to capture the expression, spark and motion of the subject. How horses interact with each other or with people can be the basis the painting.

I like working in either watercolor or oil because they allow me to get back into the painting to make changes. Drawing skills are a the foundation of my painting. Capturing the gesture of the animal, the depth of the landscape are important to me.

Watercolor has been my main medium. Now I have expanded my creative energies to oil painting and sculpture. There is always a new trail to investigate in art and something new to learn. Please contact me to purchase any of the paintings or sculptures in the portfolio lists.
